M & E Updates and Consultation for Metro Manila, Bicol and Visayas Region

Maggie

As part of the AMTPIV’s strategy to strengthen management systems of AIDS response, PNAC, in partnership with Health Action Information Network (HAIN) and Health Development Initiatives Institute (HDII), the M&E Team revisited the pilot sites and conducted M&E System assessment and planning of partners. It was an overwhelming gathering of 25 participants from Metro Manila, Bicol region and Visayas as they discussed updates, assessment and planning on their monitoring and evaluation scheme on HIV and AIDS last April 17-18, 2008 at Imperial Palace Suites, Quezon City.

Dr. Gerald Belimac of the National AIDS and STD Prevention and Control Program (NASPCP) of the Department of Health presented the highlights of the Regional 2008 UNGASS Report of Southeast Asian countries. It showed comparison on certain indicators, challenges and bottlenecks in achieving Universal Access targets. He also mentioned the High Level UN experts and civil society meeting in June 2008.

Although NGOs and Local AIDS have its own initiatives in different parts of the country, they still recognized the need to continuously strengthen its partnership with different stakeholders. It was also identified during the open forum that there have been several research work complimenting to the UNGASS indicators but were not utilized in the recent country report. Furthermore, there is still a need for sustaining financial resources among NGOs and technical assistance for capacity building on research and monitoring and evaluation.
